FUNdamentals Programme
FUNdamentals Programme
Our FUNdamentals Programme is the first step on our Athlete Development Pathway. This course is designed to help coaches better understand their role when working with young athletes and how to develop a positive relationship with athletes and for athletes to develop a positive relationship with sport.
The course teaches all participants how to develop their own coaching skills and better understand their role and the positive impact they can have as a coach. After looking at how we are in a position as a coach to develop our athletes emotionally, we look at the FUNdamental movements upon which we build the course. We use our FUNdamental Assessment chart that is designed to look at each athlete’s initial fundamental movement skills. These are the basic movements upon which we build our athletes from that better enables them for sport.
Before we look at sport specific skills with any athlete we need to look at Fundamental Movement Skills and this course gives all participants the skills to do that.
John Barrie - Athlete Development Pathway Lecturor Institute Technology Blanchardstown
‘‘The Fundamentals programme set out by the Irish Calisthenics Institution is a significant improvement on other courses that I have completed over the past number of years. The programme developers have really considered the development of the coaches abilities and then the athlete development, which is a quite unique way to develop a course. It highlights the needs of the coach to develop themselves and their knowledge and then following this it looks for them to use this knowledge and skills to develop the young athlete.
The layout and requirements of the Athlete development awards is very clear. The ability of the athlete to progress throughout the awards from Level 1 to level 8 is designed to a very high level. The athlete can develop in a number of areas (Strength, Statics, Transitions, Dynamics) that are fundamental to their development.
With this level of knowledge and detail I can see the Irish Calisthenics Institution develop over the coming years’’
Heidi O'Sullivan, Senior Child and Adolescent Mental Health Occupational Therapist
‘‘The Irish Calisthenics Institution FUNdamentals Programme is a wonderful opportunity for children to develop both their physical and emotional well-being due to the holistic bottom up approach that Jamie and his team have developed. Not only have they worked so hard at understanding how primary movement develops a child's growing brain, but Jamie has also worked hard at training his team to recognise how important it is for each child to feel seen and safe, and the children I work with are testament to how Jamie achieves this.’’
The course is a two day course, lasting four hours each day, covering the theory aspects behind Coaching Development and Athlete Development, looking at the development of an athlete from three different perspectives: Physical, Emotional and Educational.
There is then practical elements on the course that show how we use our FUNdamental Movement Assessment Chart and create an understanding behind these movements and why we use them.
On the second day we will work with a group and review the session looking at each individuals interaction with the group, their understanding of the essential movement patterns and review the session.
Participants who successfully pass the course will receive their Calisthenics FUNdamentals Coaching Certificate and gain access to our online membership area for one year. This will also include all learning material from the course in PDF Format.
This is the perfect course for any person looking to begin their journey into coaching as we deal with the importance of developing a relationship with your athletes and how this is the key to keeping people involved with sport.
